Acts 6:4 (KJV) But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
The Ministry Of The Word – Acts 6:4 – Dec 29, 2018 Sat
This ministry is key to building the church. But look very closely at the words…it reads, “ministry of the word”… what does the word mean? It means the Word of God, Jesus Christ. Look at John 1:1-5. The first verse says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Then the third verse: “All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.”
There is so much inside the above verses, but I don’t want to get into it here, at this time. Rather, I want to focus our attention on the ministry of the word.
Sorry I was interrupted
(NOTE: I was very interrupted and stopped my writing. Five days have passed since I started this writing. It was on Monday the 24th that I got the idea to write about The Ministry of The Word. I like these words, the way the say what they mean and mean what they say…I’ve heard that phrase said before, where, I’m not sure. Therefore, let us continue the literary journey of sorts. I also changed the title to be today’s date.)
My interest is exactly the words and not the meaning of the words
The thought that catches my interest is exactly the words and not the meaning of the words. I really like the words, “the ministry of the word”…rather than what these words mean. I did some looking around the SwordSearcher Bible Software in some of its books. Many of the references to this Acts 6:4 is all about the meaning of this verse and the context in which it’s placed and lacks a little bit about how important it is to do the ministry of the word. Only from my current perspective, okay?
In conjunction with the ministry of the word is preceded by the words, “…give ourselves continually to prayer…” When I read this, I instantly see the need to be in prayer, but not just saying something like: thank you or bless this or help us Lord…all that is good and has a correct place and time. However, look again at Acts 6:4, I’ll put it here again, Acts 6:4 (KJV) But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
Prayer is an event that never ends
Give yourself to prayer. To give is, I think different than, take some time to pray. The thought came to me to clarify something very critically important to reading and studying the Word of God.
Number one: believing that God’s Word is pure and is perfect is required.
Number two: believing in a single book, not a pile of books, I’m referring to the hundreds of modern translations of one single book, the Holy Bible in the English language, why so many? The more books there are, past one, is the step into confusion and well of course, doubt. You know the saying, “Yea, hath God said,…” You can read it here: Genesis 3:1 (KJV) Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Number three: we must come to an absolute decision on God’s Word…after all, if we’re going to do “the ministry of the word”, then after all, we better know which word is being ministered! I’ve been studying this “Bible Version Conspiracy” for about 4 years and I am absolutely convinced by the thousands upon thousands of real facts that the Authorized Version, commonly known as the King James Bible, is the single book we each must come to study to show are selves approved unto God…that is here: 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
I can go on with numerous quotes of real facts but I’m going to leave that for another discourse. I hope you will understand. By the way, if you need to look at an Online KJV Bible, this is the one.
Add yourself to my daily prayer
This has developed a prayer life
Getting back to our verse here in Acts 6:4 where it says, “continually”…this is what I say about my own prayer life. Let me clarify another thing about me…as you may know, I’ve spent four decades as a professional driver. Because of this type of work involving millions of miles I’ve had tens of thousands and thousands of hours all by myself…this has developed a prayer life that has kept me in the Lord.
Prayer of a continuous nature has been the number one activity that has kept me focused and sane behind the wheel. The reason why is, because in the first five months of driving, 1977, I had a nervous breakdown and tried to kill a family in a car. I went insane and and became very sick for about one year. Within weeks of this event I sold my truck back to the company and quit driving and lived out of a backpack and tent for a year. I mean it was horrible! (Not the backpack, the event!)
I still pray without ceasing
When I became healed, which happened in Anchorage, Alaska, October 1978. I began continually praying from that period onward and still to this day, December 29, 2018, Boulder, Colorado, I still pray without ceasing! Because of my prayer life, I live! Without a prayer life, I would be dead. There is no doubt or question about it. I would have died behind the wheel of my rig. I almost want to cry … I owe everything to the Lord … thank you Jesus.
Prayer is my answer to every thing there is in life. What is prayer? It’s talking to God. God is the Principle Owner of my life. Does God own your life? That is why that being on my daily prayer list could be a very profitable thing to you.
Being baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire
After prayer the verse says, “and to the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:4. After prayer, then it is, oh so easy to hear God and to do what God wants to do in every situation and with every person. Easy because, the Holy Ghost is not a burden, nor is the Holy Ghost heavy, nor is the Holy Ghost hidden from the righteous man. When we pray, the Holy Ghost comes and fills us…of course I’m referring to being baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire. (Matthew 3:11 (KJV) I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire)
You see, without the Holy Ghost being your immediate Comforter and Teacher in all things God and Heaven, then life as a minister becomes, or rather let me say, as a Christian…life becomes a work or a job or a chore…yes, I know that there are fun times and all that, but I’m not at this time referring to that, no. Life becomes as our verse says, “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:4. I use VerseClick™ for the verse look ups, it’s works really well.
Discover your own precious stones
I can really go on and on about prayer and the word, but rather I would like to see you get into God’s Holy Word and discover your own precious stones (1 Corinthians 3:12 and Revelation 21:19) that become oh so precious to you, because you are the one who found the well of life (Proverbs 10:11) in God’s Precious Word. God truly blesses each one of us who diligently seeks to study to show themselves approved unto God… 2 Timothy 2:15.
Father, I thank you for all that you are doing in the lives of the reader here. You show goodness to the reader who shows goodness to you. Thank you Lord for your precious blood shed on that horrible tree. Thank you Holy Spirit for caring for the reader, for providing for the reader and for comforting the reader in their life. I love you. In your name Jesus, forever yours. Amen.
Two services I use to help support the ministry
If you would like to pledge to a brand new missionary type of church, that is being built by creating cell groups, then please use this service to give and support the work. (JC membership link) The idea is to have accountability and transparency regarding finances. Thank you for your faith.
This is a simple and effective service to hold my prayer list of people whom I’m talking with for salvation, ministry and in creating cell groups. (JC commission link) The idea is that after witnessing with a gospel tract, I stay in contact for follow up and daily prayer. God bless you.
Respectfully in JESUS,
John Choque.
Touching People For Heaven
Let me ask you a question… if you died tonight, do you have the assurance in your heart, that you would go to heaven? The answer is either yes or no, that’s it.
“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
—Acts 2:21 (KJV).
This is the most important decision of your life. You receive eternal life by receiving Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord.
